Review Guidance

We encourage a developmental editing approach. Since SIGDOC Proceedings are a reputable, double-blind peer-reviewed outlet, the organization sees value in having reviewers work with authors—many of whom are graduate students (especially for 2023 proposals), early career faculty, or industry practitioners—throughout the publication process to help the writer(s) produce the best form of the work as possible.

In about 300-400 words, please provide formative feedback for each proposal submission. In your feedback, please comment on

  • the clarity of the described topic and methods,
  • whether they sufficiently and appropriately connect their work to prior work/research in the field; and
  • whether they describe clear takeaways for the SIGDOC audience.

Commitment to community and anti-racist scholarly reviewing practices

Whatever your decision, we want everyone who submits a proposal to feel a part of the SIGDOC community—where they feel comfortable and envision growing as scholars.

We also agree with the inclusivity and anti-racist statement set out by our association’s journal, Communication Design Quarterly. We encourage reviewers to revisit the CDQ statement on inclusivity and anti-racism as a shared ethical approach for reviewing throughout the organization.
