Industry Insight<\/h3>\n<p>Industry insights present lessons learned from an industry-situated experience of interest to scholars, researchers, teachers, and practitioners in communication design, technical and professional communication, UX, or other related fields.<\/p>\n<p><em>Examples<\/em>: project, concept, technology, trend.<\/p>\n<p>To facilitate connections and conversation, program co-chairs try to thematically group multiple research papers and\/or reports.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Proposals:<\/strong> <em>See proposal submission guidelines <\/em>and<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Write from a practitioner&#8217;s perspective.<\/li>\n<li>Focus on 1\u20132 key \u201cinsights\u201d learned during the process of an experience in industry.<\/li>\n<li>Situate within the larger field of practice and highlight specifically why insight is significant for industry moving forward.<\/li>\n<li>Include practical steps audience members and readers can take in light of the experience.<\/li>\n<li>Avoid solely focusing on promoting proprietary tools.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Proceedings:<\/strong> Final paper 2\u20133 pages in ACM SIGDOC conference format, including figures and references. <em>At least one author must register and attend the conference to include the paper in the Proceedings<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Example<\/em>: <a href=\"https:\/\/dl.acm.org\/doi\/10.1145\/3513130.3558996\">Maintaining Momentum in your Technical Communication Career During a Leave of Absence, by Hardin (2022)<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>3. Experience Report<\/h3>\n<p>Experience reports present experiential-based reflections on a particular case, methodology, or design idea from projects and deployments.<\/p>\n<p><em>Examples<\/em>: technology usage and practice aspects or broad project experience descriptions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Proposals:<\/strong> <em>See proposal submission guidelines <\/em>and<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>discuss benefits and drawbacks of approaches<\/li>\n<li>clearly describe lessons learned<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Proceedings:<\/strong> Final papers 4\u20136 pages in ACM SIGDOC conference format, including figures and references.<\/p>\n<p><em>Example<\/em>: <a href=\"https:\/\/dl.acm.org\/doi\/10.1145\/3472714.3473661\">Beyond \u201cAlt-Text\u201d: Creating Accessible Data Visualizations with Code by Strantz (2021)<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>4. Poster<\/h3>\n<p>Posters are a less formal presentation of work in progress, theories, experimental work, new concepts, late-breaking research results, or work that is best communicated visually and in conversation.<\/p>\n<p><em>Examples<\/em>: original research or novel designs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Proposals:<\/strong><em> S<\/em><em>ee proposal submission guidelines<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Successful proposers bring completed posters (up to 3 x 4 feet in size) to the conference where they are displayed during a special session.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Proceedings:<\/strong> Final extended abstracts 1\u20132 pages in ACM SIGDOC conference format, including figures and references.<\/p>\n<p><em>Example<\/em>: <a href=\"https:\/\/dl.acm.org\/doi\/10.1145\/3472714.3473669\">Communication and Algorithmic Decision Making in a Virtual Healthcare Context: Extended Abstract by: Campbel, George &amp; Guha (2021)<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>5. Panel Session<\/h3>\n<p>Panels are composed of multiple presenters organized around a specific topic relevant to SIGDOC audiences.<\/p>\n<p><em>Examples: <\/em>qualitative methods; anti-racist approaches to conducting research; ethically engaging research participants.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Proposal<\/strong>: <em>See proposal submission guidelines<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Proceedings<\/strong>: Final extended abstracts 1\u20132 pages in ACM SIGDOC conference format, including figures and references. <em>All members of the panel must register for and attend the conference for the extended abstract to be included in the Proceedings<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Example<\/em>: <a href=\"https:\/\/sigdoc.acm.org\/conference\/2021\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2021\/02\/a37-palmer.pdf\">Breaking the Exclusionary Boundary between User Experience and Access by Palmer, Oswal &amp; Huntsman (2019)<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>6. Workshop<\/h3>\n<p>Workshops provide opportunities for engaged introductions to new developments in the field and participatory discussion of current ideas and practices.<\/p>\n<p><em>Examples: <\/em>card sorting, inter-rater reliability, conducting observations, taking field notes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Proposals<\/strong>: <em>See proposal submission guidelines<\/em> and<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>explain clearly how attendees participate in workshop activities;<\/li>\n<li>include a schedule indicating times, registrant activities, and speakers; and<\/li>\n<li>provide evidence of active registrant participation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Workshops <\/strong>are not accepted for the proceedings.<\/p>\n<h3>Questions<\/h3>\n<p>Program co-chairs Morgan Banville and Elena Kalodner-Martin invite questions related to the <a href=\"https:\/\/sigdoc.acm.org\/conference\/2026\/proposal-process\/cfp\/\" rel=\"noopener\">CFP<\/a> at <a href=\"mailto:sigdocconference@gmail.com\">sigdocconference@gmail.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n    <\/div>\n  <\/article>\n<\/section>\n\n\n<section class=\"article-wrap\">\n  <article class=\"article\">\n    <h2 class=\"article__title\">\n      Conference Proceedings Guidelines\n    <\/h2>\n    \n    <div class=\"article__description\">\n      <h3>Submit to the proceedings<\/h3>\n<p>We strongly encourage all authors whose proposals are accepted to submit to the peer-reviewed Conference Proceedings. We review papers by academic standards, relevance, conceptual quality, innovation, and clarity. <strong>Yet, be sure to review ACM&#8217;s Open Access (OA) changes and its impacts on authorship in our proceedings.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Explore Proceedings from <a href=\"https:\/\/dl.acm.org\/doi\/proceedings\/10.1145\/3711670\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2025<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/dl.acm.org\/doi\/proceedings\/10.1145\/3641237\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2024<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Results and experiences described in proceedings papers and extended and poster abstracts must not be under consideration for publication elsewhere.<\/li>\n<li>After peer-review based notification of acceptance, full-length papers and extended abstracts are then reviewed and returned to authors for final edits and ACM formatting.<\/li>\n<li>Authors then re-submit papers and abstracts as \u201ccamera-ready\u201d submissions.
