The SRC offers a forum for students to present their original research at an ACM-sponsored conference before a panel of judges and attendees. Participants also have the option of preparing an Extended Abstract to be published in the <a href=\"https:\/\/dl.acm.org\/conference\/doc\">conference proceedings<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>See the Call for Submissions below, or <a href=\"https:\/\/sigdoc.acm.org\/conference\/2024\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/sigdoc-src-cfs-2024.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">download the CFS as a PDF<\/a>.<\/p>\n          <\/div>\n          <!-- Start list of conference committee -->\n          \n        <\/div><!--\/inner-->\n      <\/div><!--\/thumb-->\n    <\/div><!--\/panel-->\n    \n  <\/section>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<section class=\"article-wrap\">\n  <article class=\"article\">\n    \n    <div class=\"article__description\">\n      <p>Undergraduate and graduate students are invited to submit proposals (400 to 600 words) on topics related to communication design, technical communication, and\/or user experience including, but not limited to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Content strategy<\/li>\n<li>User experience design and experience architecture<\/li>\n<li>Learning systems and environments<\/li>\n<li>Open source design solutions<\/li>\n<li>Collaborative platforms<\/li>\n<li>Design methods and principles<\/li>\n<li>Digital humanities and design<\/li>\n<li>Project management<\/li>\n<li>Information design and architecture<\/li>\n<li>International and intercultural communication design<\/li>\n<li>Computer-mediated communication<\/li>\n<li>Social impacts of technical communication<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Proposals will be submitted through a web form. Up to 15 undergraduate and 15 graduate students will be selected to enter the SRC, to be held at SIGDOC \u201924 in Arlington, VA, USA. Students must attend in-person to compete in the SRC. SIGDOC will offer a limited number of travel grants and will host workshops intended to help participants win travel grants from their own institutions. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Students will be responsible for conference registration fees and are responsible for <a href=\"https:\/\/services.acm.org\/public\/qj\/gensigqj\/gensigqj_control.cfm?promo=PWEBTOP&amp;form_type=SIG&amp;offering=033&amp;sigstu=SIG_STUD&amp;byp=1\">SIGDOC student membership<\/a>, which is $25 per year. There are monetary awards for the 1st ($500), 2nd ($300), and 3rd place ($200) winners in both the undergraduate and graduate divisions.<\/p>\n<h2>Schedule<\/h2>\n<p>To participate in the SRC, please observe the following due dates:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>CFP published Friday, March 29, 2024<\/li>\n<li>Proposals due: Friday, May 10, 2024<\/li>\n<li>Acceptances by: Friday, May 31, 2024<\/li>\n<li>Extended Abstracts (optional) due: Friday, June 21, 2024<\/li>\n<li>Reviewer comments back by: Friday, July 12, 2024<\/li>\n<li>Final version of Extended Abstracts (optional) due: Friday, August 2nd, 2024<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What is the SRC?<\/h2>\n<p>The SRC consists of two rounds of competition at the conference, as well as the possibility to move on to a grand finals competition at a later date. You may also check out SIGDOC SRC extended abstracts published in the conference proceedings in past years here: <a href=\"https:\/\/dl.acm.org\/conference\/doc\/proceedings\">https:\/\/dl.acm.org\/conference\/doc\/proceedings<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Three Rounds of Competition<\/h3>\n    <\/div>\n  <\/article>\n<\/section>\n\n\n<div class=\"feature-card-container\">\n  <section role=\"region\" \n        aria-label=\"Information about the SRC competition three phases\">\n\n    <div class=\"panel panel__preface\">\n      <div class=\"thumb\">\n        <div class=\"inner\">\n\n          <!-- Start paragraphs -->\n          <div>\n            <span>\n              <p class=\"drop_case_first_letter\">\n                1 Poster Session: The first round of competition is a poster session. This is your opportunity to present your research in the areas specified in the Call for Submissions. Judges will review the posters live and speak to participants about their research; five semi-finalists from each division (undergraduate and graduate) will be chosen to present at the second round of the competition.\n              <\/p>\n            <\/span>\n            <span>\n              <p class=\"drop_case_first_letter\">\n                2 Oral Presentation: Semi-finalists continue by giving a short oral presentation of their research before a panel of judges, with supporting slides\/visual aids. Evaluations are based on the presenter\u2019s knowledge of their research area, contribution of the research, and the quality of the oral and visual presentation. Three winners will be chosen in each division (undergraduate and graduate) and will receive a medal and $500, $300, and $200, respectively.\n              <\/p>\n            <\/span>\n            <span>\n              <p class=\"drop_case_first_letter\">\n                3 The SRC Grand Finals: First-place undergraduate and graduate student winners from the SRC have the option to advance to the SRC Grand Finals. A different panel of judges evaluates SIGDOC winners against winners from other ACM Special Interest Groups online.
