If you can take time to explore, you\u2019ll find one-of-a-kind art experiences, shops, and restaurants.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.portlandsaturdaymarket.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Saturday Market<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Open Saturdays 10-5 (and, confusingly, Sunday 11-4:30), the Saturday Market hosts the work of local artists, craftspeople, farmers, and cooks.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.powells.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Powell\u2019s City of Books<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. This square-block bookstore is probably the most universally recommended spot for Portland visitors. The world\u2019s largest bookstore (based on shelf space) is an exhilarating place to find your next few dozen reads.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.foodcartsportland.com\/maps\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Find a Food Carts pod<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. If Portland didn\u2019t start the food truck craze, certainly the popularity of street food and the city\u2019s DIY ethos are a perfect fit for food trucks. Use this resource to find out what is where.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Karaoke. If you love to sing, or to embarrass yourself in public, or to watch your friends do so, Portland has a variety of karaoke options. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/voiceboxkaraoke.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Voicebox Karaoke<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> has multiple locations around the city that allow patrons to rent their own karaoke rooms at reasonable rates, while the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.alibiportland.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Alibi Tiki Bar<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> is great for late-night singing, eating, and drinking when other places close.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Museums and Historical<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/omsi.edu\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">OMSI<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry is popular with children and adults, and features a planetarium, a submarine, a theater, and exhibits galore.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/portlandartmuseum.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Portland Art Museum<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. The Portland Art Museum\u2019s daring architecture and expansive collection of contemporary and historical art is a compelling draw.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldforestry.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">World Forestry Center Discovery Museum<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. The WFCDM\u2019s appeal is multifaceted: not only does it include fascinating displays about the world\u2019s forests, it also sits in the middle of beautiful Washington Park (see below) and is close to the Oregon Zoo and the Portland Children\u2019s Museum (also see below).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.portlandoregon.gov\/parks\/finder\/index.cfm?action=ViewPark&amp;PropertyID=127\">Forest Park<\/a> and <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/pittockmansion.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Pittock Mansion<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Portland has a forest inside its city limits (Forest Park), and it\u2019s well-worth exploring (if you brought appropriate shoes, of course; most of its trails are unpaved). For the adventurous, you can park at the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/tmgjuC472nYB1ih36\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Upper Macleay Trail Cornell Parking Lot<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, near the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/D59pkb7tuM9z1x5x5\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Adams Community Garden<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, and hike the Wildwood Trail up to the historic <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/pittockmansion.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Pittock Mansion<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> where you can learn about Portland\u2019s history.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.orhf.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Oregon Rail Heritage Center<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Learn about historic locomotives and how trains work at this underrated museum.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.oregonmaritimemuseum.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Oregon Maritime Museum<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. This museum is on a steam sternwheeler sitting on the Willamette River, and it features maritime artifacts and historical exhibits.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.portlandcm.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Portland Children\u2019s Museum<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. This museum\u2019s primary audience is children.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ohs.org\/museum\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Oregon Historical Society Museum<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. For the historically minded, the Oregon Historical Society Museum has information about the state\u2019s history and exhibits about specific aspects of Oregon\u2019s fascinating past.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Parks, Gardens, Zoos<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"http:\/\/explorewashingtonpark.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Washington Park<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Washington Park is west of our conference venue, and though it is smaller than Forest Park, it has varied landscape features and also contains the Japanese Garden, the Hoyt Arboretum, the Oregon Zoo, and the Children\u2019s Museum.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hoytarboretum.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hoyt Arboretum<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oregonzoo.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Oregon Zoo<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/japanesegarden.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Portland Japanese Garden<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lansugarden.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Lan Su Chinese Garden<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. This beautiful and sometimes ornate garden also features exhibits about Chinese culture and history.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oregonmetro.gov\/parks\/smith-and-bybee-wetlands-natural-area\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Smith and Bybee Wetlands<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. You can traverse the verdant Smith and Bybee Wetlands by foot or bicycle on the trails or by boat if the season permits.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.portlandoregon.gov\/parks\/finder\/index.cfm?action=ViewPark&amp;PropertyID=275\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mt. Tabor<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Mt. Tabor is an extinct volcano, and the park that sits on it includes a reservoir and a winding trail with a great view at the top.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Explore the neighborhoods.
