Welcome to the first hybrid Virtual-Hub SIGDOC Conference—SIGDOC 2021! SIGDOC ’21 is hybrid. The conference team will facilitate a virtual platform to host a regular online program with synchronous and asynchronous content, including video presentations, workshops, and keynotes all available to registrants online. 

Overview

The conference includes both live events and the asynchronous presentations. You have to register and use the login credentials you’ve received to attend live events and access program content.

The conference program provides the schedule of daily activities and events. Presentations are organized by presentation type and category. Access these tools on the Explore the Conference page, or use the Full Program dropdown menu to view presentations by type.

This conference, for the first time, will include eight small localized meetups—what the conference committee is calling “Hubs.” These day-long hubs (taking place separately but simultaneously on October 14th) are in addition to the online content and designed to support SIGDOC members across the globe in providing an in-person space to connect and think through what it means to build coalitions across and through our diverse spaces. Each of these hub meetups will be hosted and designed by the individual hub locations. More information on each hub and their respective activities and schedule can be found using the drop-down menu above.

Our live events will be held via Zoom. Registrants will receive links to individual sessions each day. We’re excited to offer a wide range of opportunities to connect with one another.

The conference is hosted virtually by the Arizona State University in Mesa, Arizona, USA, whose campus is situated on the territory of the the Akimel O’odham (Pima) and Pee Posh (Maricopa) peoples. We encourage you to learn more about the indigenous peoples whose territory you occupy. North American attendees can start their research at native-land.ca and nativegov.org.

Engagement

SIGDOC is a small, collegial conference that features opportunities to network, get to know each other and respond to one another’s presentations. Our virtual conference provides similar opportunities in several formats.

• Presentation Feedback: Use the Comments feature on each presentation page to engage with the presenters. Presenters will respond to these comments, and we hope productive conversations will emerge around the presentations and responses.
• ‘Official’ Backchannel Conversations: We’re using Twitter to host synchronous conversations about live events. While Zoom chat will also be used, we encourage you to engage in conversations with attendees on Twitter. Please welcome to use #SIGDOC2021 or #SIGDOC21 and tag @sigdoc on Twitter.
• Networking: While the local hubs offer plenty of opportunities to meet local SIGDOC members, we also have an Online Networking Mixer from 4-5pm EST on Tuesday October 12. Come join us!
• Actual Conversations: We’re using Zoom for live sessions, and registrants receive links by email (coming from sigdocconference@gmail.com, so please check your spam folders).
